Hello everyone, Today I would like to talk about an important topic - cancer. This is a subject that almost all of us have heard of or have had friends or family members who have been affected by it. That's why it is crucial for us to focus on raising awareness and understanding about cancer.
1️⃣ Characteristics of cancer::
One of the characteristics of cancer can be described as "individualistic." Although it is referred to as cancer, the early stages of cancer and the progression of cancer differ, and the condition of the disease varies depending on whether it is invasive or metastatic. Based on the diagnosis and the individual's living environment, circumstances, and personal preferences when diagnosed with cancer, a comprehensive assessment is made to determine the most suitable treatment method and treatment schedule that the patient and the patient themselves can understand and agree upon.
2️⃣.Main types of tests for cancer detection:
1. CT scan:
It involves taking cross-sectional images of the body using X-rays and can examine the abnormalities of all tissues and organs from head to toe. Additionally, with the use of contrast agents, the precise location of a tumor can be better determined.
2. PET scan:
It detects emitted protons from radioactive substances injected into the body. It is particularly effective in detecting even small-sized cancers. PET-CT, which combines PET with CT, is often used simultaneously and is very useful in assessing both the shape and status of organs.
3. MRI scan:
It uses magnetic fields to create sectional images of organs as visual representations.
3️⃣ Three main treatment approaches for cancer:
1. Surgery:
Removing cancerous tumors and surrounding tissues through either open surgery or minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic or robotic surgery. Surgical treatment is actively pursued for both early-stage and advanced-stage cancers, and many cases have achieved complete remission through surgery alone. The healing process and overall recovery time vary depending on the extent of the surgery, and there are now less invasive surgical techniques available that cause less burden on the body, such as minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgeries.
2. Drug therapy (Chemotherapy):
Destroying cancer cells through the administration of drugs via injection, intravenous infusion, or oral consumption. Chemotherapy can be used to treat cancer cells that have spread to other parts of the body. However, chemotherapy often comes with side effects such as hair loss, nausea, fatigue, and numbness, which can affect the quality of life. Efforts are being made to develop medications that can minimize these side effects and allow patients to maintain their daily activities.
3. Radiation therapy:
Using high-energy radiation to target and destroy cancer cells, inhibiting their growth. Radiation therapy may cause side effects such as skin or mucous membrane inflammation in the treated area and occasionally dizziness. However, advancements in testing techniques and radiation delivery methods have allowed for more precise targeting of cancer cells while minimizing exposure and reducing the impact on the body. For example, radiation therapy can now be focused on the affected area with high precision or delivered in the form of radioactive seeds placed internally (brachytherapy).
